Different ways to Commute to College

by admin on July 8, 2010

Consider these tips for commuting to college:

Find a fuel-efficient way to commute.

This is especially important if you have a long commute. Remember, you are commuting to college in order to save money not to make up the difference in gas. If you can, you might want to consider trading in your extra-large SUV for a more economical car. If that isn’t possible try to find someone to carpool with. That way you can make a friend while sharing the drive and the gas. In case you are lucky enough to have a short commute, opt to ride a bike to school. Save gas and the Earth while also getting an exercise!

Attend as many campus events as possible.
The challenge most commuter students encounter is not feeling like a part of the campus community. To fix this, try to be very involved in campus organizations and events. Join and attend as many as possible. It will take more effort to make additional meetings, but it will be worth it when you look back at you college years.

Schedule classes around your commute.
You only want to make your commute once, so try to schedule your classes back-to-back so you don’t have a lot of downtime in between. Your commute will be much more tolerable if you aren’t stuck on campus waiting for class. If you can’t avoid schedule gaps, try to make the most of your time by studying or going to office hours for your professors.
